DETAILS
Operating over 90 stores nationwide, ADVENTURE GROUP is known as a clothing & daily goods company in Japan.
ZAKANAKA INC, which is the U.S. based affiliate of ADVENTURE GROUP, planned to open their first shop in the United States. They gave us the opportunity to provide our design and construction service for the shop.
CHALLENGES
1. Layout Suiting Utensils that are Brought in from Japan
Since Japanese-style products are supposed to be brought as they are from Japan to the United States, we chose Japanese-style utensils and defined their layout in a Japanese style manner.
While planning for displaying products and utensils made in Japan, converting the planning sketch into our floor plan drawings was conducted at WWC, and then materials used for the interior of the store were selected.
2. Japanese-style and US-style Fitting Rooms
In the early stage of this project, the Owner pointed out that the size of our proposed dressing room is more than twice that of the Japanese style dressing room and thus will certainly reduce store space.
That being the case, we explained to the Owner the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) in order to ensure understanding of our design intention.
One day, a few weeks after the opening of the store, a customer in a wheel-chair visited the store, used the dressing room, and enjoyed shopping without any difficulty. The client told us that they really felt satisfied with the shop being compliant with ADA standards.
