DETAILS

The Japanese food restaurant, “Gonpachi”, is the third venture in LA for Global-Dinning Inc.
Global Dining has already launched several restaurants in LA, such as Monsoon Cafe, La Boheme, etc. Do you remember the Minami Azabu restaurant to which former Prime Minister Koizumi took President Bush in the past for business dinners? Now “Gonpachi” is also located in Beverly Hills.

CHALLENGES

1. Taking Over Construction
In the early stages of this project, a major Japanese general contractor was responsible for the construction process. Regardless of that, at the time when the ground work and steel erection work commenced, the Owner gave us the opportunity to take over the remaining construction works.
For these reasons, WWC continued to become responsible for the construction processes in this project until the date of completion.

2. Persistence to Quality and Space
The Owner’s persistence to enhance the food environment/space allowed us to procure building materials that are equivalent to those used in the Japanese Gonpachi restaurant, in terms of architecture and interior design.
Practically, after old Japanese folk houses were dismantled to obtain parts for later use, these building parts (including wood timber, gates, stone materials, etc.) were imported from Japan. We took special care about reflecting those imported materials into our design.
In particular, we took much time to provide Beverly Hills Building & Safety Division and the inspectors an explanation about the structure of the wooden frame (the major structure of the restaurant) so that they could understand the structural theory.
